WPBN: On the final day of the year 2024, Indiana will likely experience some wintry weather. An area of low pressure will move across Indiana, bringing with it a combination of snow and rain showers.
The northern part of the state will be mostly affected by snow, while the center and southern parts of the state will be affected by rain.
It is our expectation that rain will begin to turn into snow across the central region of Indiana when the temperatures begin to drop in the evening. There is a possibility that the conditions will be slippery on New Year’s Eve evening and night.
Snow flurries and widespread snow showers are predicted to occur on New Year’s Day, which is Wednesday.
There is a possibility that this low pressure will move in sooner than we had previously believed. This would make it possible for colder air to flow in more quickly during the afternoon and evening, which will result in a more rapid transition to snow showers.
The Rain and Snow Zones
From the evening and overnight hours of New Year’s Eve into New Year’s Day (Tuesday into Wednesday), we believe that snow will be increasingly likely across northern and central Indiana.
Although we are not exactly certain about the timing of when the rain/snow line will push south, we do believe that snow will continue to be a possibility.

Tuesday, December 31
There is a good probability that the majority of the snow that could fall on Tuesday will remain in northern Indiana. The region circled in blue with a dashed line indicates the location with the highest probability of snow accumulation.

When we come closer, we will make adjustments to these zones. It is possible that they will be moved further north or further south.
This is a recreation of the rain and snow that occurred on Tuesday morning around ten o’clock. There should be an increase in the number of snowflakes falling in Indiana as temperatures begin to drop into the middle of the 30s.
It is anticipated that the boundary between rain and snow showers will gradually move southward throughout the afternoon and evening on Tuesday.
New Year, New Rules: Connecticut State Laws Going Into Effect on January 1, 2025
New Year’s Day: Wednesday (January 1)
The lake-effect snow is heavier and more constant. On the first day of 2025, there will be a presence of cold air, along with some gusts from the northwest.
Our forecast calls for a significant number of snow showers and flurries to be dispersed across the state of Indiana. It is likely that snow showers with a higher concentration will be located to the north and east of Indianapolis.
This is a development that is taking place. Keep an eye out for news updates. Modifications to the speed and trajectory of the low pressure will result in changes to the areas that are expected to experience precipitation and snowfall.
