Pueblo, CO – A significant winter storm is expected to bring heavy snow and gusty winds to Colorado’s central mountains today, with hazardous travel conditions likely through the evening. The Sawatch and Mosquito Mountain ranges are forecast to receive the heaviest snow, along with strong winds of up to 70 mph.
According to the National Weather Service, visibility will be significantly reduced, particularly along mountain passes, including U.S. Route 24 and U.S. Route 50. Travelers are urged to drive cautiously and prepare for slippery roads. Those planning trips should monitor updates and consider delaying travel if possible.
A Red Flag Warning is also in place for portions of southeast Colorado, including the I-25 corridor, where dry conditions and high winds pose an elevated wildfire risk. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged, and residents are advised to secure outdoor items that could be blown away.
Tuesday is expected to bring calmer weather for Pueblo, with sunny skies and highs near 39 degrees. As New Year’s Day approaches, colder air will move into the region, with overnight lows dipping into the teens. By Wednesday, snow may return to the mountains while plains areas remain dry and breezy.
Looking ahead, the five-day forecast shows temperatures gradually warming by the end of the week, with highs reaching the low 50s by Friday.
Stay updated with local weather advisories, and avoid mountain travel today unless absolutely necessary.
