WPBN: According to authorities, a 15-year-old boy was shot by police during a skirmish in Los Angeles on Thursday night and is now in critical condition. Around 6:40 p.m., while officers were on normal patrol near Hooper Avenue and 92nd Street, the incident took place.
Officers were on patrol when they noticed a man suspect spray painting graffiti on a wall through vandalism. To look into the matter, they pulled over in their patrol car.
A second person came out and displayed a weapon as the authorities were dealing with the alleged vandal. This person, who was later found to be a 15-year-old boy, unexpectedly started shooting at the officers.
The officers swiftly got out of their car and fired back, hitting the adolescent suspect. With the assistance of a waiting car, the child was able to flee the scene despite his injuries.
An adult male driver, later identified as Kevin Diaz, 20, was operating the automobile. The injured teenager and the suspected vandal also got into the car, and the three of them ran away.
After then, there was a police chase that took place across a number of locations before coming to an end in Compton. After successfully stopping the car, police took all three of the occupants into custody.
The two 15-year-olds, including the injured adolescent, were also arrested, along with Kevin Diaz. Because of their age, authorities did not disclose the identity of the two minors.
A loaded.45 caliber handgun and a shotgun shell casing were found during a vehicle check and taken as evidence. These results raise questions about the level of criminal activity the suspects may have been involved in before the shooting because they show the presence of more firearms.
For medical attention, the hurt youngster was sent right away to a local hospital. He is still in critical condition, and there have been no updates on his progress. Diaz and the unharmed 15-year-old were among the two other suspects who were taken into custody on suspicion of attempting to kill a police officer.
Thankfully, neither the gunfight nor the ensuing pursuit resulted in any injuries to the officers. The officers’ prompt responses and adherence to policy in a potentially fatal circumstance were praised by the Los Angeles Police Department.
