Wakefield, VA – Virginia residents are preparing for possible severe weather on Sunday as forecasters warn of storms and strong winds. The Storm Prediction Center has placed most of the region under a Marginal Risk (1/5) for severe weather, with southwestern Mecklenburg County in a Slight Risk (2/5).
According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, the main concern will be damaging winds. The storms are expected to move into the area Sunday afternoon and evening. Rainfall is likely to intensify as the system progresses eastward. Maps provided by meteorologists indicate heavy rain beginning near Charlottesville around 2 p.m. and reaching Richmond and Norfolk by the evening.
Officials advise those with outdoor plans to stay alert and carry umbrellas. Breezy conditions are expected throughout the day, complicating travel and outdoor activities.
By 8 p.m., the strongest storms will likely impact areas east of Richmond, pushing toward coastal regions by 11 p.m. Residents should monitor updates and secure outdoor objects to prevent wind damage.
