Burlington, VT – Dense fog and near-freezing temperatures are causing slick roads across Vermont this morning, particularly along I-89 and near deeper valleys in central and eastern parts of the state. Drivers are urged to exercise caution as visibility in some areas has dropped below a mile.
According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, Sunday’s dense fog is coupled with icy patches, creating hazardous driving conditions near Waterbury, Saranac Lake, and Edwards. These conditions are expected to improve later today as south winds strengthen and temperatures rise to a high of 46°F. Rain will move in after 2 p.m., potentially alleviating icy patches but reducing visibility further.
Sunday night will see breezy conditions, with wind gusts up to 33 mph and temperatures holding steady near 46°F. Monday brings another round of rain, starting early in the morning and lasting through the afternoon. Gusty winds reaching up to 28 mph will make outdoor activities challenging.
Looking ahead to New Year’s Eve, mild temperatures near 39°F will give way to steady rain by the evening. By midweek, colder air will usher in a mix of rain and snow Wednesday night into Thursday morning, potentially disrupting travel plans.
Drivers should plan for delays and monitor updates as conditions change rapidly. Avoid travel early Sunday morning unless necessary.
