Las Vegas, NV – A High Wind Warning remains in effect for the Spring Mountains and Red Rock Canyon until 10 p.m. tonight. Forecasters warn of sustained southwest winds between 30 and 40 mph, with gusts reaching 75 mph.
The National Weather Service (NWS) issued the alert Sunday afternoon, emphasizing the risks for downed trees, power lines, and hazardous travel conditions. High-profile vehicles, including trucks and RVs, are particularly vulnerable. Impacted roads include Lee Canyon Road, Kyle Canyon Road, Deer Creek Highway, and Blue Diamond Road.
“Travelers should exercise caution, especially on open highways and in mountainous regions,” the NWS said in a statement. Officials urged residents to secure outdoor furniture, holiday decorations, and any loose items that could become projectiles.
The combination of strong gusts and dry conditions also raises concerns for power outages. Utility crews are on standby to respond quickly to any reported issues.
The warning comes during a busy holiday weekend, potentially disrupting travel plans. Drivers in the area reported poor visibility from blowing dust and debris earlier in the day. Travelers heading to and from the mountains are advised to delay trips or use alternate routes if conditions worsen.
The NWS recommends avoiding outdoor activities in affected areas until the winds subside. The warning will expire by 10 p.m., but conditions could remain breezy overnight.
