Grand Junction, CO – A series of snowstorms is set to intensify across northern and central Colorado, bringing up to 14 inches of snow by Monday evening. Travelers should prepare for hazardous conditions, especially on mountain passes such as I-70, where visibility and traction will be reduced.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, snowfall will taper off briefly Sunday morning before intensifying again tonight. The heaviest snowfall is expected in the northern mountain ranges, with 7–14 inches forecast. Central mountain areas may receive 4–8 inches. The storm is likely to cause delays and hazardous travel conditions through Monday evening.
Residents and travelers are advised to plan accordingly. Those heading into higher elevations should carry chains or snow tires and allow extra time for travel. Avoid unnecessary trips if possible.
The storm will ease by Monday night, but additional snow could arrive later in the week. New Year’s Eve celebrations in Colorado may see calmer weather, with sunny skies and highs near 40°F forecast for Tuesday. Overnight lows will drop into the teens, so those venturing out should bundle up.
Looking ahead, the first few days of January will feature mostly sunny conditions with highs in the mid-40s and lows in the low 20s. However, conditions may shift as another storm system could bring light snow by Friday.
