Duluth, MN – Drivers in Duluth are waking up to dense fog and freezing conditions this morning, creating hazardous travel throughout the area. Visibility is expected to drop below a quarter-mile, with slick roads from freezing fog increasing the risk of accidents.
According to the National Weather Service, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect for the region until noon. Areas along I-35 and Highway 53 are particularly impacted by low visibility and icy patches. Motorists are advised to use low-beam headlights, maintain a safe following distance, and allow extra time for their morning commute.
Foggy conditions are expected to linger into Monday, with temperatures reaching a high of 36°F Sunday afternoon and dipping to 29°F overnight. By Tuesday, patchy fog may return early but clear as cooler air pushes into the region. Highs will drop to the upper 20s by midweek, and lake-effect snow showers are forecast for Wednesday near the Bayfield Peninsula.
As New Year’s Eve approaches, temperatures in Duluth are expected to remain cold, with highs near 20°F and breezy northwest winds gusting up to 25 mph. While no significant snow accumulation is forecast for New Year’s Day, residents should prepare for wind chills in the single digits.
Travelers should monitor conditions closely, as visibility could worsen throughout the day. For updates, check weather.gov or follow local advisories.
