Boston, MA – Drivers across southern New England face hazardous conditions this morning as dense fog reduces visibility to near zero in many areas. A dense fog advisory remains in effect until 11 a.m., impacting major roadways such as I-90 and I-495.
According to the National Weather Service, visibility in some spots has dropped below a quarter mile, posing risks for travelers. Motorists are advised to use low-beam headlights, reduce speed, and maintain a safe following distance to avoid accidents. The advisory excludes Rhode Island’s southern coast and parts of southeastern Massachusetts, where conditions are gradually improving.
Light rain is expected to develop this afternoon, with temperatures peaking around 46°F. Tonight will bring patchy fog and a chance of rain, keeping roads slick and visibility low into the evening hours.
Looking ahead, Monday’s forecast calls for heavy rain beginning late in the day and gusty winds reaching 26 mph. Highs will approach 57°F. These conditions could complicate holiday travel and outdoor plans, so residents are encouraged to prepare for delays.
The week’s weather is expected to improve by Tuesday, with mostly sunny skies and a high near 52°F. However, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day bring another round of rain, with a chance of steady precipitation by evening hours. Temperatures will remain in the mid-40s to low-50s through midweek.
Drivers and pedestrians should remain vigilant for changing conditions and plan accordingly for both today’s fog and this week’s rain. For more updates, visit the National Weather Service’s website or tune into local forecasts.
