According to the National Weather Service, rainfall totals will range from 1 to 2 inches in some regions, with wind gusts reaching 45 mph in the yellow-highlighted zones on the weather map. Rain is expected to begin early this morning and taper off by late afternoon. However, winds will intensify between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., potentially causing minor tree damage and power outages.
If you’re driving, avoid flooded roads and secure outdoor objects to prevent wind-related damage. Use caution near low-lying areas, especially in Cook, Will, and Kankakee counties.
After today, conditions are expected to improve slightly. Monday will be partly sunny with a high near 46°F and calmer winds. Rain may return late Monday night, transitioning to a mix of rain and snow by Tuesday morning. New Year’s Eve looks mostly cloudy with highs near 32°F, providing dry but chilly weather for celebrations.
