Peachtree City, GA – Severe storms are threatening parts of Georgia this morning, with a tornado watch in effect until 9 a.m. Damaging winds up to 70 mph and hail as large as a quarter are possible, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
The watch affects more than 50 counties, including Fulton, DeKalb, and Cobb. Residents should remain alert and be prepared to take shelter if a warning is issued. The strongest storms are expected before 4 a.m., followed by rain and lingering thunderstorms through the early morning.
According to the NWS, heavy rainfall may result in isolated flash flooding, especially in urban and low-lying areas. Drivers on major roadways such as I-75, I-85, and I-20 should exercise caution due to slick roads and poor visibility.
Looking ahead, conditions will improve Sunday afternoon, with clearing skies and temperatures reaching the upper 60s. Monday is forecast to be mostly sunny with a high near 65, offering a brief respite before colder weather arrives midweek. New Year’s Eve looks chilly but clear, with temperatures dropping to the low 40s by midnight. New Year’s Day is expected to be sunny and seasonable, with highs in the low 50s.
