Homewood, IL – A 26-year-old man from Carbondale died, and two others were injured in a single-car crash early Sunday. The incident occurred around 2:38 a.m. on the 17500 block of Dixie Highway.
Police and firefighters arrived to find a grey Chevy Trax that had left the roadway. The vehicle struck landscaping rocks and a village sign before coming to a stop. Emergency responders transported the driver and two passengers to local hospitals for treatment.
According to the Homewood Police Department, one of the passengers, Andre Walker, 26, later succumbed to his injuries. Walker was identified as a resident of Carbondale, Illinois.
Authorities continue to investigate the crash with help from the Suburban Major Accident Reconstruction Team (SMART). Police have not yet determined what caused the vehicle to veer off the road.
