Visibility Alert: Dense Fog Expected Across Florida Panhandle Roads and Gulf Waters Today

Tallahassee, FL – Hazardous weather conditions are expected to impact parts of the Florida Panhandle through the weekend. A dense fog advisory remains in effect until Saturday afternoon, followed by a small craft advisory beginning in the evening.

According to the National Weather Service, dense fog is reducing visibility to 1/4 mile or less in areas including the Ochlockonee River, Apalachicola, and Suwannee River regions. Foggy conditions are expected to persist until 3 p.m. Saturday, potentially causing dangerous driving conditions. For mariners, visibility in nearshore Gulf waters will make navigation especially risky.

The advisory warns small craft operators to exercise caution, as south winds of 20 to 25 knots are forecast to develop Saturday evening, lasting until Sunday morning. Gusts could reach 30 knots, accompanied by rough seas. Hazardous conditions will likely affect vessels navigating waters from Mexico Beach to Apalachicola and beyond.

Drivers are urged to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles. Mariners should ensure running lights and radar equipment are functional and plan to delay trips if possible.

The upcoming week brings variable conditions. Expect partly cloudy skies and highs in the mid-60s on Sunday, with cooler temperatures and scattered showers by New Year’s Day. Travelers should monitor weather updates for changing forecasts and heed local safety alerts.

Be prepared for delays and challenges through the weekend. For further information, visit [your local weather service site].
