Pontiac, MI – Michigan residents should prepare for a wet Sunday as heavy rain sweeps across the region. Rainfall totals could exceed one inch, with some areas seeing up to two inches by midnight.
According to the National Weather Service in Detroit, light to moderate rain will begin early Sunday morning and persist throughout the day. The heaviest rainfall is expected during the afternoon and evening hours. Rainfall rates may reach up to 0.4 inches per hour in some locations.
Localized flooding is possible in low-lying and poor drainage areas, particularly in Wayne County. Officials advise caution on roadways and urge residents to clear drains to prevent water pooling.
Despite the steady rain, significant flooding is unlikely due to Michigan’s dry ground conditions. The storm will taper off by late Sunday night.
The weather service reported record rainfall on this day in Detroit (1.34 inches), Flint (1.37 inches), and Saginaw (1.02 inches) during past years.
Stay updated on weather developments and prepare for potentially slippery roads. Use extra caution while driving during periods of heavy rain.
