WPBN: An encounter between a raccoon and an infant that took place earlier this week in Cassia County, Idaho, was both unique and worrisome. The raccoon attacked the child while it was inside the house.
In a statement that was issued on Friday, the Idaho Department of Fish and Game offered specifics regarding the attack. The statement detailed the events that took place on Monday.
According to the details provided by the department, the assault took place not long after the mother of the infant arrived home. At the time of the occurrence, the infant child was being transported in a carrier.
When the mother heard an odd disturbance in the house, she instantly ran to investigate, and when she did, she saw that the raccoon was attacking her child. She was able to seize the beast and put an end to the assault within a short amount of time.
A short time after the event was reported, the father of the child and a deputy from the Cassia County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the residence. It was discovered that the raccoon was still inside the house.
As a means of eliminating the threat, the father and the deputy took action by killing the animal. This ensured that the animal would no longer be able to endanger the family or anybody else.
Following the assault, the infant boy was sent to a nearby hospital for the purpose of receiving immediate medical attention.

Due to the gravity of the issue, the infant was eventually moved to a specialized hospital in Salt Lake City in order to receive additional medical attention before being discharged. Upon completion of the tests, it was determined that the animal in question did not harbor the rabies virus.
