Jackson, MS – A dense fog advisory is in effect for most of Mississippi and northeastern Louisiana, lasting until 9 a.m. Saturday. The National Weather Service warns drivers to expect visibility as low as a quarter mile in affected areas.
According to the NWS, dense fog will impact major roadways, including I-55 and I-20, creating hazardous driving conditions during the early morning commute. Drivers are urged to slow down, use headlights, and maintain a safe following distance.
The advisory affects several counties, including Bolivar, Sunflower, and Lowndes in Mississippi. Coastal and inland waterways will also experience low visibility, making navigation difficult.
The weather pattern responsible for the fog includes high humidity and calm winds, creating ideal conditions for reduced visibility. Forecasters expect the fog to clear as temperatures rise later in the morning, but localized patches could linger into the afternoon.
Looking ahead, the region will see warmer-than-average temperatures leading into New Year’s Day, with highs in the mid-60s and low-70s. Rain is expected midweek, potentially affecting outdoor holiday plans.
Motorists traveling for the weekend are encouraged to check real-time traffic updates and use caution when approaching low-lying areas where fog tends to be heaviest.
