Traffic Stop in Danville Leads to Loaded Handgun and Drug Paraphernalia Arrest

Danville, IL – A routine traffic stop in Danville early Friday led to the arrest of a rural Oakwood man on multiple charges.

Police pulled over a vehicle around 12:15 a.m. on the 500 block of North Gilbert Street for failing to use headlights. Officers identified the driver as 28-year-old Kyle A. Smith. During the stop, officers reportedly found suspected contraband and a loaded handgun inside the vehicle.

According to the Danville Police Department, Smith refused to cooperate and physically resisted officers. Police eventually arrested him on charges including aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of cannabis, and obstructing/resisting a peace officer.

Smith was booked at the Vermilion County Public Safety Building. Police emphasized that charges are accusations, and all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Authorities urge anyone with information about the incident to contact the Danville Police Department at 217-431-2250 or submit anonymous tips via Vermilion County Crimestoppers at vccrimestoppers.org.
