Medford, OR – Southern Oregon residents face severe weather conditions this week, including snow, flooding, and dangerous surf. A winter storm system will bring heavy snow to higher elevations and significant rainfall to coastal areas, heightening flood risks.
According to the National Weather Service, snowfall is expected between Wednesday night and Friday morning at elevations of 4,500 to 5,500 feet. Areas near Crater Lake and Diamond Lake could see the heaviest snow accumulations. Meanwhile, heavy rains starting Friday will increase flood risks across the region, with several rivers, including the Coquille River, forecast to reach or exceed bankfull by Sunday.
A High Surf Warning is also in effect for Douglas, Coos, and Curry Counties. Waves of 25 to 30 feet could cause coastal flooding, beach erosion, and dangerous conditions for holiday travelers.
Officials urge residents to stay informed and exercise caution, especially when traveling. Drivers are advised to carry chains in mountain passes and avoid flooded roads.
Stay tuned to the National Weather Service for updates and prepare for potentially hazardous conditions.
