Greenville, SC – Residents in the Western Carolinas and Northeast Georgia are bracing for heavy rainfall and severe storms this weekend. A cold front arriving Saturday night into Sunday may bring damaging winds, flash flooding, and an isolated tornado threat.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Greenville-Spartanburg, strong thunderstorms are most likely Sunday morning through Sunday afternoon. Rainfall totals could reach 4–6 inches in some areas, increasing the risk of localized flooding. The highest precipitation is expected in regions near Asheville and Brevard.
Officials urge residents to monitor weather updates and stay prepared. “Have a plan of action if severe weather strikes,” the NWS emphasized in its advisory. A slight risk for severe thunderstorms includes damaging gusts and possible tornadoes.
Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor items, prepare for power outages, and avoid flooded roads. Emergency kits with flashlights and weather radios are recommended.
