Jackson, MS – Mississippi residents are advised to prepare for severe weather expected Saturday, including damaging winds, hail, and potential tornadoes. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued an Enhanced Risk warning, the third level on a five-tier scale, covering much of the state.
According to the NWS Jackson office, multiple rounds of storms are expected from Saturday afternoon through the night. Key threats include wind gusts up to 70 mph, hail up to golf ball size, and isolated tornadoes. Heavy rainfall is also likely, with some areas receiving 2 to 4 inches, potentially causing localized flooding.
Forecasters urge residents to remain alert, especially in areas prone to flooding. “Given the enhanced risk, it’s critical to monitor local weather updates and prepare emergency kits,” NWS officials noted.
Severe weather preparation tips include securing outdoor items, charging devices, and planning for power outages. Officials also recommend reviewing tornado safety protocols.
Residents are encouraged to follow updates from the National Weather Service and local authorities throughout the weekend.
