Only a Few Days Left: Drivers Can Still Save on Tolls with New Sticker Before 2025 Fee Increase

WPBN: There are only a few days left for drivers to obtain a sticker that will assist them in maintaining lower expenses, as the TOLL charges are scheduled to increase beginning January 1, 2025.

Customers will be required to have a North Carolina Quick Pass in order to use toll highways in the state of North Carolina beginning on New Year’s Day.

Despite the fact that not all motorists will be required to pay the same amount, the North Carolina Turnpike Authority has decided to raise the toll rates beginning on January 1.

If you purchase a North Carolina Quick Pass, you will be able to save money and obtain a reduction of fifty percent on the toll rate on roadways in the state of North Carolina.

This is an increase from the present savings of 35% that has been achieved.

It was declared by the Turnpike Authority that drivers do not require a transponder in order to take advantage of the savings. A new sort of account that is exclusive to North Carolina and can be used for travel within the state is being introduced.

In the period between November 11, 2024 and February 28, 2025, about 300,000 free transponders will be distributed to clients who have received an invoice.

The minimum amount of pre-paid balance that is required for new accounts has been reduced from $20 to $10 in order to provide drivers with further assistance.

Additionally, the authority announced new partnerships with 7-Eleven gas stations that are located in close proximity to toll facilities and make it possible for people to purchase transponders.

Transponders are another option that can be purchased from Amazon. According to the authorities, there is a rationale behind why it is important for drivers to create an account with the North Carolina Quick Pass.

Tolls collected from consumers who do not have an account are approximately three times more expensive than those collected from customers who do have an account, as stated by the authority.

Customers who have made the decision not to have accounts will be subjected to a greater burden as a result of the additional rate. The people who have accounts should see large savings as a result of this.

The new program may be beneficial to more than just drivers in North Carolina; it may also be beneficial to other drivers.

One can also take advantage of discounts on toll roads in 18 additional states if they choose to sign up for a basic Quick Pass account and purchase a transponder.

One of these states is Virginia, followed by Georgia and Florida.

Following the revelation that the North Carolina Quick Pass was the target of a “smishing” scam alert, this comes some weeks after the news broke.

According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), smishing is something that happens when consumers are tricked into installing malware, giving sensitive information, or sending money to cybercriminals through the use of bogus text messages.

In the most current episode of the Quick Pass scam, drivers were sent SMS from a number that claimed to be representing the toll company, informing them that they were responsible for unpaid tolls.

A warning has been issued to the locals, stating that the organization will never request payment over text message. A call was made to the Internet Crime Complaint Center, urging motorists to report any fraudulent SMS they received regarding unpaid tolls.
