Freestone County, TX – An EF-0 tornado touched down near Teague on Christmas Eve, bringing 85 mph winds to the area.
The National Weather Service (NWS) in Fort Worth confirmed the tornado, which struck around 5:32 p.m. on Sunday. The storm traveled 0.51 miles south of Teague, with a path width of 75 yards. No injuries or fatalities were reported.
According to the NWS, the tornado lasted just one minute but caused minor damage in rural areas. The EF-0 rating indicates it was the weakest on the Enhanced Fujita scale, with peak winds estimated at 85 mph.
Residents reported brief but strong gusts and debris scattered in the affected area. Local authorities have not indicated significant property damage but urge caution for future severe weather events.
Weather experts remind Texans to remain alert during tornado season, which can bring unexpected storms even in late December.
