Salt Lake City, UT – Christmas morning brought a shift from rain to snow in parts of northern Utah, creating hazardous travel conditions for holiday commuters. Snowfall began early Wednesday in Tooele Valley, as well as on the benches of Weber and Davis counties, reducing visibility and slicking roadways.

According to the National Weather Service, rain changed to snow by 6:13 a.m., with accumulation expected to continue through mid-morning. State cameras on SR-36 in Tooele and Harrison Boulevard in Ogden showed heavy snowfall, prompting officials to urge drivers to slow down and increase following distances.

By afternoon, snow is expected to taper off in most areas, but freezing temperatures tonight will likely cause residual icy spots. Commuters traveling for post-Christmas plans should prepare for potential delays and pack emergency supplies.

Looking ahead, more snow is expected Thursday afternoon before transitioning to rain. Another wintry mix is forecasted Thursday night into Friday, further complicating travel as temperatures fluctuate. Saturday brings a similar pattern, with rain and snow alternating throughout the day before warming to the low 50s by Sunday.

Holiday travelers should monitor the latest forecasts, as weather conditions could change rapidly. Drive cautiously, especially on major routes like I-15 and SR-36, and check UDOT cameras for real-time updates.
