Sierra Nevada Snowstorm Brings Up to 14 Inches in 24 Hours

Sacramento, CA – Northern California experienced significant snowfall in the last 24 hours, with totals reaching up to 14 inches in some areas. The Sierra Nevada region, in particular, was blanketed by heavy snow, creating challenging travel conditions but boosting the winter tourism season.

According to the National Weather Service in Sacramento, Dodge Ridge received the highest accumulation with 13 inches of snow, while Sugar Bowl recorded 14 inches. Other areas, including Sierra at Tahoe and Kirkwood, saw between 8 and 11 inches.

Travelers are urged to check road conditions before heading into mountain passes. Chains may be required on major highways, including Interstate 80 and Highway 50. The snowfall has also increased avalanche risks in certain backcountry areas, according to local ski patrols.

The storm has invigorated winter enthusiasts, with ski resorts reporting excellent conditions for holiday visitors. Local businesses dependent on winter tourism are optimistic about a strong season.
