Quad Cities, IL – Travelers across Illinois should prepare for changing weather conditions starting Thursday, with rain and fog expected to impact key roadways. Mild temperatures will linger through the weekend, but precipitation and reduced visibility may disrupt post-Christmas plans.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), light rain is possible Thursday morning, becoming more widespread by Thursday night. Highway 20 and surrounding routes could see patchy fog and freezing drizzle during overnight hours. Drivers are advised to exercise caution, particularly during early morning commutes when visibility may drop significantly.

Rain chances remain high into Friday, with temperatures peaking near 53 degrees, unseasonably warm for late December. On Saturday, scattered rain showers are forecast, with milder conditions extending through Sunday. Temperatures will hover between the mid-40s and lower 50s for most of the weekend.

By New Year’s Eve, cooler air returns, with highs in the upper 30s and a mix of rain and snow possible. Residents planning outdoor celebrations should monitor updated forecasts and prepare for slippery conditions.

The NWS advises residents to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of freezing drizzle and use headlights in low-visibility areas. Those traveling for holiday gatherings should allow extra time and stay informed through local weather updates.
