Seattle, WA – A powerful winter storm will bring heavy snow and gusty winds to the Cascades, creating dangerous travel conditions through Thursday evening. Residents and holiday travelers should plan for slick roads, low visibility, and potential delays.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a Winter Storm Warning is in effect from 10 a.m. Wednesday to 10 p.m. Thursday for areas above 3,500 feet. Snowfall totals of 1 to 3 feet are expected, with winds gusting up to 40 mph. Lower elevations between 3,000 and 3,500 feet, including Snoqualmie Pass, could see 6 to 12 inches of snow.

Travelers are urged to check road conditions, chain requirements, and pass updates before heading out. Roads will likely become slick and hazardous, with blowing snow significantly reducing visibility. The NWS advises those traveling through Snoqualmie and Stevens passes to allow extra time and drive carefully.

Post-Christmas plans may be affected, as the storm coincides with holiday travel. Those venturing outdoors should prepare for winter conditions, pack emergency supplies, and monitor weather updates.

The forecast calls for improving conditions by Friday as the storm system moves east. However, additional snow showers are possible in higher elevations over the weekend. Temperatures in the Seattle area will remain cold, with highs in the 30s and overnight lows near freezing.
