Baltimore, MD – Christmas Day offers calm and sunny conditions, but a potential storm system this weekend could affect post-holiday travel plans across Maryland. Travelers are urged to monitor the forecast closely as rain moves in Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), Wednesday’s forecast remains seasonably cool, with a high of 43°F under partly sunny skies. Calm winds prevail, creating ideal conditions for Christmas Day celebrations. However, as the week progresses, persistent cloud cover will return Thursday and Friday, with similar daytime highs in the mid-40s. Overnight lows dip to the 30s, so commuters should prepare for frosty mornings.
The most impactful weather develops Saturday, as rain becomes likely by midday. With highs near 53°F and a 70% chance of precipitation extending into Sunday, slick roadways and reduced visibility could pose challenges for drivers. The rain is expected to intensify Saturday night, with storm chances increasing to 80% into early Sunday morning.
NWS forecasters advise travelers to allow extra time for holiday journeys and check for real-time traffic updates. Those traveling along major routes like Interstate 95 or the Baltimore Beltway should expect delays due to wet conditions and increased traffic volume.
Looking ahead, Sunday and Monday show signs of lingering showers, though temperatures will climb to nearly 60°F by early next week. A gradual clearing trend is possible by Tuesday, offering respite from the wet weekend.
