Salt Lake City, UT – Rain and snow are set to disrupt holiday plans in northern Utah as a winter weather system moves through the region starting tonight. Travelers along the I-15 and I-80 corridors should prepare for slick roads and possible delays through Christmas Day.

According to the National Weather Service, rain is expected to begin after 8 p.m. tonight before transitioning into a rain-and-snow mix overnight. Low temperatures will dip to 32 degrees, but little accumulation is expected. Christmas Day will bring more significant weather impacts, with heavy rain in the morning possibly turning to snow by afternoon. A high of 40 degrees is forecast, with a 90% chance of precipitation.

Holiday travelers should remain cautious as untreated roads may become icy, especially in higher elevations. Officials urge drivers to reduce speeds, keep extra distance, and have emergency kits on hand.

The storm will linger through Thursday, bringing additional rain and snow with highs in the low 40s and overnight lows near 30 degrees. Light snow accumulation is possible Thursday night. The weather is expected to stabilize slightly by Friday, though rain and snow showers will persist into the weekend.

Residents and visitors should monitor forecasts closely and plan travel during daylight hours whenever possible. For updated road conditions, visit Utah Department of Transportation’s Traffic Map.
