A winter weather advisory is in effect for northern Nevada, with snow expected to create hazardous travel conditions beginning this afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Elko, the advisory impacts areas including northern Elko County, the Ruby Mountains, East Humboldt Range, White Pine County, and southern portions of Lander and Eureka counties. Snowfall is anticipated to begin at 4 p.m. today and continue through 10 a.m. Wednesday, with up to four inches of snow accumulation expected.
Travelers are advised to prepare for slippery road conditions that could disrupt commutes both Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning. Residents should exercise caution, reduce travel speeds, and remain updated on conditions by dialing 511 or visiting the Nevada Department of Transportation’s website.
In a related development, Eureka set a new high temperature record of 54 degrees on Monday, breaking the previous record of 52 degrees set in 1986. The unseasonably warm conditions are expected to shift as the weather system moves through the region.
Stay vigilant for updates and prepare for shifting conditions as winter weather grips northern Nevada.
