Watch: UK man leaves haircut midway to help policeman under attack

A routine haircut turned into an act of heroism for a UK man who left the barber’s chair mid-trim to rescue a police officer under attack. The incident, captured on video, has catapulted 32-year-old Kyle Whiting of Warrington, Cheshire, to viral fame, earning him widespread praise for his courage.

Haircut interrupted: A quick-thinking hero

Whiting was at Haron Barbers in Warrington when he noticed a violent confrontation unfolding outside. Without hesitation, and still draped in the barber’s cape, he rushed out to assist the officer being overpowered by an assailant.

“Before you know it, my barber had taken his phone out and had gone up to the window and started recording. I then saw the guy outside swing for the police officer and throw him down onto the ground,” Mr Whiting was quoted as saying by BBC.

Springing into action, Whiting grabbed the attacker from behind, pulling him off the officer and restraining him until additional police arrived. His intervention allowed the officer to regain control as bystanders also stepped in to help.

Motivated by family ties

Whiting revealed that his decision to act was deeply personal. His sister serves as a police officer, and he couldn’t bear to stand idly by.

“I thought, ‘I’m not sitting back and watching this.’ If that was my sister, I would hope somebody wouldn’t hesitate to help her if she was on her own,” he explained.

Social media applauds the ‘haircut hero’

The video of Whiting’s selfless act quickly went viral, drawing admiration from across social media. Many hailed him as a real-life superhero, playfully dubbing him the “caped crusader” and “haircut hero.”

“Not all heroes wear capes… but this one does! Can we take a moment to applaud this fella, mid-haircut—dashing out to aid a copper with a violent criminal? Not enough people like you around!” wrote one user. Another joked: “Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s haircut man!”

Police acknowledge the act of bravery

Cheshire Constabulary issued a statement commending Whiting for his intervention. The department confirmed that the attacker, a 50-year-old man, had been arrested and later handed over to healthcare professionals for further evaluation.

Thanks to Whiting’s quick thinking and bravery, a potentially dangerous situation was brought under control. For many, his actions serve as a reminder of the power of ordinary citizens to step up in extraordinary moments.
