SAN JOSE — An investigation into a family disturbance led to police shooting and wounding a person, authorities said early Monday.
The wounded suspect was in critical condition at a hospital, police said.
Officers were called to the area of S. First Street and Sutter Street about 7:45 p.m. Sunday on reports of an issue with a family that involved a weapon, according to a statement from San Jose police posted on social media. Police said the suspect threatened officers with a knife.
That threat prompted one officer to fire his weapon, and the gunfire hit the suspect, police said.
After being wounded, the suspect barricaded inside the residence, police said. Officers eventually took him into custody, and an ambulance rushed him to a hospital.
Police closed Sutter Street from S. First Street to S. Almaden Avenue to investigate.
