California still counting ballots in November presidential election

While the results of the presidential election were clear by early Wednesday morning, as of Thursday night just two-thirds of the estimated votes cast in California had been counted, with some local races still hanging in the balance. Some smaller, rural counties with few voters were nearly finished counting votes, while bigger, more urban counties had a ways to go. Alameda County, in particular, had processed just a third of its ballots — well below the state average of 66%.

Election officials estimate that 16.2 million Californians cast ballots. The state has more than 22 million registered voters. Of the ballot cast, 10.7 million were processed as of Thursday evening, and local election officials estimated an additional 5.5 million ballots still needed to be processed.
