Sunnyvale School District ‘tops off’ new classroom building – The Mercury News



Classy ceremony

Sunnyvale Middle School had a “topping off” ceremony on Nov. 1 for its new classroom building, with Blach Construction hoisting a ceremonial last beam into place. The beam was signed by students and staff.

The new second-story classroom building is the third in the Sunnyvale School District and includes 21 new classrooms, five student collaboration spaces, an art room, a teacher collaboration space, and an academic courtyard. The new building is meant to prioritize a sense of community and provide a modern learning environment, according to the district.

Construction this summer with the demolition and relocation of old portables, new underground utilities and grading and raft foundations for the new two-story building. Project completion is scheduled for the summer of 2025.

The project was funded by Measure GG, a $100 million school bond approved by voters in the district in November 2018. Measure GG provides funds to renovate older schools, improve instructional technology and increase campus safety and security at schools in the district. The average yearly cost to property owners in the Sunnyvale School District is $10 per $100,000 of assessed valuation.

Voters in the district passed Measure C, a $214 school bond measure, in March. million school bond. The average yearly cost to property owners in the district is $15 per $100,000 of assessed valuation.

Access Sunnyvale

The city is evaluating Access Sunnyvale, the city’s online service portal. The public can use it to report issues and submit service requests to city staff.

Residents can visit the community engagement page at https://engageberrydunn.mysocialpinpoint.com/sunnyvale-crm-project to fill out a survey, sign up for a community forum and share ideas.
