The Silicon Valley city of Mountain View hired Jennifer Ng as its new public works director. She is set to begin her new role on Nov. 18.
According to a recent announcement from Mountain View, Ng was hired from nearby Sunnyvale, where she has worked as the assistant director of public works and city engineer for the past seven years.
“Jennifer is an experienced, forward-thinking public works professional with over 25 years in the public sector,” said City Manager Kimbra McCarthy. “She has developed strong local and regional relationships with Public Works staff and community members.”
As public works director, Ng will oversee three main divisions: Transportation and Business Services, Engineering, and Public Services. She will receive an annual salary of $312,000.
Ng will manage a department with a budget of $122 million, a large chunk of the city’s overall $547 million budget.
The department is responsible for managing the city’s public infrastructure, facilities, streets, utilities, fleet, property, and equipment, as well as administering Solid Waste Management and Real Estate operations.
“The Public Works Department plays a crucial role in achieving the city’s long-term goals, from addressing climate change to building infrastructure that meets our community’s evolving needs,” Ng said. “I am fortunate to lead a high-performing team and look forward to collaborating on building the ‘Mountain View of Tomorrow.’”
Mountain View is home to tech giants Alphabet, the parent company of Google, and Intuit, the developer of TurboTax and Credit Karma.
According to a press release from the city, Ng grew up in the Bay Area. Before working at Sunnyvale, she held engineering roles in other Silicon Valley cities, including Menlo Park and San Jose.
