Redwood City has a new ice cream shop helmed by two young entrepreneurs: Alese Smith, 20, and Tyree Thompson, 21, serving up creative ice cream dishes.
Sure, they’ve got scoops and sundaes. But they’ve also got ice cream sandwiches made with doughnuts from Redwood City’s Chuck’s Donuts, ice cream “nachos” served with waffle cone chips and milkshakes in flavors like banana pudding and, of course, pumpkin spice.
The Black and Filipino co-owners — and couple — opened their business in mid-July, leaning into their shared love of sweets. Since then, the duo has been drawing in regulars to support their small business — and even to just say hi, Smith says.
“It’s been a way better turnout than I thought it would be,” Smith says. “Everybody comes for our milkshakes.”
The milkshakes, yes — and the horchata ice cream, which is the most popular choice among the 24 options, she says.
The dessert destination sources its goods from around Northern California — the dairy-based ice cream is from the East Bay’s Loard’s, an ice cream maker that’s been in operation since 1950, and their three flavors of non-dairy ice cream come from Milk and Sugar Creamery in Tracy. They also source cookies from Oomymy Cookies, a small San Mateo business. It’s part of their commitment to support other small businesses, Smith says.
