RICHMOND — Authorities on Thursday identified a teenage girl who died while in a car that crashed while speeding with three others, including her younger sister.
Stephanie Anahi, 16, of Richmond, flew out of the Infiniti G35, when it crashed into two trees and a telephone pole in the 600 block of Canal Boulevard on Monday about 5:15 a.m. She died at the scene.
Authorities originally said the girl was 14. They amended that Thursday.
The girl’s sister went by ambulance to a trauma center and was in critical condition immediately after the wreck. Authorities have not updated her condition since then. They said she is 11 years old.
The girls were two of four people in the Infiniti. The other two were 15-year-old boys who fled the scene and later were found. Police tracked down one of them at a hospital and the other at a residence in Richmond.
Police said they have not determined who was driving, because the people who were in the car and have talked have given conflicting statements. Police added that they will use DNA tests to determine who was behind the wheel.
According to police, their initial investigation showed that the Infiniti was speeding north on Canal Boulevard when it went off the roadway and hit two trees and a light pole on the eastside curb. No other vehicles were involved.
