Oasis Makers Fairs
TETRA Hotel in Sunnyvale has two more Oasis Makers Fairs set for this year: Bayan y Pueblo—A Heritage Craft Fair on Oct. 23 and Tidings, Tinsel + TETRA Holiday Makers Fair on Dec. 11. Each of the pop-ups will feature wares from more than 20 small business owners and makers.
October’s fair is a collaboration with South Bay Makers to celebrate Filipino and Hispanic Heritage Months by highlighting Filipino, Mexican and Latinx makers. The fair will feature a performance by the Piedmont Hills High School Filipino Club and music by DJ Toonin. December’s Oasis will have a holiday vibe and should be the hotel’s largest makers fair to date.
Both Oasis Makers Fairs will be held from 5-8 p.m. at TETRA Hotel & AC Hotel Sunnyvale Moffett Park, 400 W. Java Drive. The fairs are free and open to the public, but RSVPs are highly encouraged through Eventbrite.com.
Educational awards
The Santa Clara County Office of Education (SCCOE) received the Large County Office of the Year award from the California County Superintendents last month at the 2024 annual awards.
The award recognizes the SCCOE’s work on diversity, equity and inclusive initiatives; whole child implementation; students with disabilities; supporting arts education; and other work that leads best practices in the state.
Ironically, recently ousted SCCOE Superintendent Dr. Mary Ann Dewan was presented with the Outstanding Individual Achievement Award from the national Association of Educational Services Agencies.
