Virginia Tech ruins Stanford’s first-ever ACC home game with 31-7 win

STANFORD – Stanford’s one-dimensional offense was no match for Virginia Tech in its first-ever ACC conference home game.

With quarterback Ashton Daniels unavailable due to injury, the Cardinal started Justin Lamson, normally the team’s short-yardage QB. Stanford (2-3, 1-2 ACC) couldn’t get anything going in the passing game except for a 19-yard TD pass from running back Micah Ford to receiver Elic Ayomanor as Virginia Tech won 31-7 Saturday afternoon at Stanford Stadium.

Lamson was 13 of 24 for 101 yards and an interception and was sacked five times. It was Stanford’s 10th straight home loss against FBS competition.

Playing a regular-season game in California for the first time, Virginia Tech (3-3, 1-1) took a 21-0 lead two minutes into the third quarter on a 55-yard touchdown pass from Kyron Drones to Da’Quan Felton.

Stanford tried mounting a comeback, as the halfback option pass made it 21-7 with one minute left in the third quarter. But Lamson severely underthrew a receiver at midfield early in the fourth quarter, and the Hokies made it 28-7 on their ensuing possession.

Stanford had chances early, but Emmet Kenney missed a 53-yard field goal and Lamson fumbled on the Virginia Tech 3.
