When the ship capsized, the victims of the Bayesian superyacht were trapped alive

ITALY- According to autopsies, four of the seven persons who perished in the Bayesian superyacht sinking last month off the coast of Sicily died from asphyxia after becoming trapped inside the ship’s cabins while still alive.

According to forensics results, Jonathan Bloomer, head of Morgan Stanley’s London-based investment banking division, and his wife Judy, as well as New York City lawyer Chris Morvillo and his wife Neda all passed away from “death by confinement,” according to La Repubblica, an Italian publication.

The theory that the four were conscious when the ship went down and had been desperately breathing in a little air bubble of oxygen until it tragically ran out is supported by the so-called “dry drowning” incident. Pathologists at the Palermo Institute of Forensic Medicine tested them and found no water in their stomach, trachea, or lungs.

Death by drowning

In 2018, Neda and Chris Morvillo were spotted in New York City. According to autopsies, the couple perished by drowning after the Bayesian superyacht sank last month off the coast of southern Italy. The four dead were discovered in a cabin on the port, or left, side of the hull, together with software entrepreneur Mike Lynch, who had planned the boat excursion to commemorate a recent court victory.

Hannah, Lynch’s eighteen-year-old daughter, was discovered in the following stateroom, which was likewise on the ship’s port side. According to La Repubblica, Lynch’s wife tried to save her husband and daughter, but she cut her bare feet on the glass and sank to the bottom as the boat trembled.

The cuts prevented her from walking for a week. Their air pockets filled with carbon dioxide turned toxic when the oxygen ran out, causing them to perish as the ship sank skewed on its starboard side. There were ten crew members and twelve passengers on board the Bayesian. The 184-foot luxury yacht flying the British flag was saved along with fifteen other individuals, including Lynch’s wife.

Unreasonable errors

According to the AP, Morvillo was one of Lynch’s U.S. attorneys in a fraud prosecution concerning the $11 billion sale of search engine startup Autonomy to Hewlett-Packard in 2011. The agreement fell through due to claims that Lynch had falsified the books in order to overvalue Autonomy. June saw his acquittal.

It is believed that prosecutors are looking into the possibility of the captain and two crew members being involved in the disaster. The reason behind the ship’s sinking is still unknown.

The CEO of the manufacturing company that constructed the yacht, Giovanni Costantino, has attributed the ship’s failure to a string of “indescribable, unreasonable errors” committed by the crew.
