1-Year-Long Escape Ends: Kenyan Fugitive Kevin Adam Kinyanjui Kangethe Extradited to US, Faces Charges in Boston for Murdering Girlfriend

Kevin Adam Kinyanjui Kangethe a Kenyan fugitive wanted in Massachusetts for murdering his girlfriend Margaret Mbitu has been extradited to the U.S. after a dramatic year-long escape and will face charges in Boston amid a complex international legal effort.

Kenyan Man Caught in Boston After Year-Long Escape

According to the report of Washington Times, Kevin Adam Kinyanjui Kangethe a Kenyan fugitive wanted in Massachusetts for the murder of his girlfriend, Margaret Mbitu has been brought to the United States. Kangethe who was caught almost a year after escaping landed in Boston from Nairobi on Sunday. He will appear in Suffolk Superior Court on Tuesday to face charges related to Mbitu’s death. Her body was found in a car at Logan International Airport on October 31.

Kangethe’s escape from Kenyan custody in January added drama to his case. After a visit from his lawyer he managed to get away from a police cell, which led to punishment for four officers. He was caught again a week later and his extradition process continued. Investigators found that Mbitu had left her job and traveled to Lowell, Massachusetts where Kangethe lived.

U.S. and Kenya Unite to Pursue Extradition of Fugitive Suspect

Mbitu, who worked as a health care aide in Halifax, Massachusetts was reported missing by her family after leaving work on October 30. The prosecution in Kenya said that Kangethe was found with Mbitu’s personal belongings linking him to her death. Kenyan Director of Public Prosecutions Renson Ingonga has expressed support for the U.S. prosecution team as the case moves forward.

The extradition highlights the challenges of international legal cooperation and tracking fugitives across borders. Kangethe’s escape and re-arrest show how complicated extradition cases can be. His upcoming court appearance in Boston will be crucial in seeking justice for Margaret Mbitu. This case shows how both the U.S. and Kenyan authorities work together to address serious crimes and maintain the rule of law.
