Arizona Sets Record with $88 Million in Unclaimed Property Returns – How to Check for Your Missing Funds
According to MoneyWise, Arizona has returned a record $88 million in unclaimed property to its residents from July 2023 to June 2024. This is a big increase from the $57 million it usually returns each year. The boost came from the state’s efforts to inform people about the program, sending out notices and promoting it widely. The refunds ranged from $1 to $1.5 million.
Unclaimed property includes things like old bank accounts, unused gift cards, and uncashed paychecks. These items can be forgotten when people move or change jobs. States usually consider property abandoned after three to five years. About 1 in 7 people have unclaimed cash, with states holding around $70 billion in total.
