According to Maryland Matters, the Sun Bucks summer grocery assistance program has been very successful, helping 586,734 children this year—43,000 more than expected. Maryland officials are asking families to apply for $120 per child before the deadline on August 31. Since the deadline is on a Saturday, families have until 5 p.m. on Friday, August 30, to apply.
The summer grocery assistance program is designed to help during the summer when schools are closed and free or low-cost meals are not available. Maryland is one of 37 states, along with the District of Columbia and some territories, using this summer grocery assistance program. Advocates call it a “game-changer” because it provides important support to families during the summer.

Maryland Sun Bucks Program Exceeds Budget with $71 Million in Benefits—Apply Now Before Deadline
Originally, Maryland planned to give out $60 million in benefits, but they have already handed out over $71 million. Most families were automatically enrolled through other benefits summer grocery assistance programs. Officials are happy with the higher participation and encourage all eligible families to apply before the deadline.
