According to Pix 11, New Yorkers have just one week left to apply for free groceries through the Summer EBT program. This program supports low-income families during the summer months when kids are out of school. Each eligible family can receive $120 per child on an EBT card, which can be used at grocery stores and farmers’ markets. Be sure to apply by September 3rd, and the funds will be available for 122 days after they’re issued.
Students who already get SNAP benefits, are approved for free meals through Medicaid, or qualify for free or reduced meals at school will be signed up for the Summer EBT program automatically. Other families need to apply and meet income requirements to qualify.
