Pomona’s New Guaranteed Income Program Offers $500 Monthly Payments to Low-Income Families Starting August 26
According to The US Sun, starting Monday, August 26, families in Pomona, California, will get $500 each month through a new guaranteed income program. This program is designed to help low-income parents or guardians with children aged three and under. Out of 600 people who applied, 250 will receive the $500 payments for 18 months. The other 350 people will be in a control group and get $20 each month. Both groups will take part in surveys by UCLA to study how the payments affect their lives.
To be eligible for the program, you need to live in Pomona, have a household income below 300% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines, and be a parent or guardian of a young child. The money is given with no strings attached—you can use it however you need, and you don’t have to pay it back. This initiative is part of a growing movement toward guaranteed income programs that offer direct financial support without the typical welfare requirements.

California’s Guaranteed Income Programs, Including Long Beach Pledge, Aim to Address Poverty and Economic Challenges
California has other similar programs, like the Long Beach Pledge Guaranteed Income Pilot, which started in 2022 to support residents and businesses hit hard by the pandemic. These programs show a growing interest in guaranteed income to fight poverty and financial problems, even though there are still debates about how well they work.
