Social Security Recipients Must Switch to Login.gov for Secure Online Access
According to LaGrada Online, millions of Social Security recipients need to switch to a new online system to keep accessing their accounts. The Social Security Administration (SSA) said that if you set up a My Social Security account before September 18, 2021, you must now use Login.gov. This change is meant to make it safer and easier to manage Social Security benefits online.
The switch to Login.gov or ID.me is important for better security and a smoother user experience. Over 5 million people have already made the switch, but about 46 million users still need to do so. To switch, users just need to log in with their old credentials and choose to connect their account to the new system. After doing this, they will continue to have full access to their services.

Users of my Social Security who registered for an online account prior to September 18, 2021, will need to transition to a Login.gov account if they wish to continue accessing online services. Accounts created before this time were able to log in directly on the government agency’s website with a username and password, whereas accounts created after access services through Login.gov.The changeover is simple and accessible, with users being prompted to make the change to Login.gov when they log in using their existing credentials. Once an account is successfully linked, a screen will appear confirming that the change has been made. Users will then have immediate access to their personal my Social Security services.
SSA Updates Online Access to Reduce Phone Support Wait Times and Improve Service
This change also helps the SSA deal with long wait times for customer service. By improving online access, the SSA hopes to make things easier for users and reduce the load on their phone support. The move to Login.gov is a big step in updating how people interact with their Social Security accounts, making sure these services stay safe and easy to use.
