VA Invests $806.4 Million to Combat Veteran Homelessness
Grants to Support Veterans’ Housing and Case Management Services
According to ThecenterSquare, The Department of Veterans Affairs has made a big effort to help homeless veterans. They are investing $806.4 million in two programs to reduce homelessness. One program, called Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF), will get $797.5 million to help veterans find and keep a stable place to live.
The SSVF program will help more veterans, thanks to a big grant of $797.5 million. This funding will allow the program to offer important services like case management, counseling, and other forms of support to low-income veteran families. The VA will also give $8.9 million to the Grant and Per Diem Program, which will provide temporary housing and support services to help veterans get back on their feet.

VA Makes Progress in Reducing Veteran Homelessness, Still Much Work to Do
The move comes as the VA continues to make progress in reducing homelessness among veterans. According to the latest national snapshot, the number of homeless veterans has declined by 53% since 2010, from 76,329 to 35,574. While there is still much work to be done, the VA’s commitment to addressing homelessness is a positive step forward. As VA Secretary Denis McDonough noted, “We’re making real progress in reducing Veteran homelessness, but there is much more work to do.”
