According to TrueCrimeNews, A former tennis coach, Leroy Joyner Jr., was sentenced to 25 years in federal prison for sexually abusing a minor and transporting her across state lines for sexual purposes. The 51-year-old Joyner was found guilty by a federal jury in January and was sentenced on August 8 to 300 months in prison. He will also be required to pay restitution to the victim, which will be determined at a later date.

Joyner, who ran a tennis association in Dale County, Alabama, that offered lessons to underprivileged children and teens, was accused of assaulting a 15-year-old student with a wooden board and beginning a sexual relationship with her when she was just 13 years old. According to authorities, Joyner would take the victim out of state to participate in tennis tournaments and engage in sexual acts with her in multiple states. The abuse continued until law enforcement began their investigation in September 2018. The U.S. Attorney’s Office praised the sentence as a reflection of the harm inflicted on the young and vulnerable victim.
