SNAP Recipients Can Apply for Replacement Benefits After Power Outages
Replacement Benefits Cover Lost Food Up to One Month’s Worth
According to NEWS5 CLEVELAND, residents with SNAP benefits who have lost power for more than four hours may qualify for replacement benefits says Cuyahoga Job and Family Services. This aid helps replace food lost due to the outage. To apply SNAP users need to report the outage and lost food to their county agency within 10 days and complete a JFS 0722 form.
To get these replacement benefits customers must show proof of the power outage and how much food was lost. The replacement benefits will cover the value of the lost food but the total cannot be more than one month’s worth of benefits. The benefits are not adjusted based on the length of the power outage. It can take up to 10 days to process the request so it is important for residents to apply quickly to get the help they need.
