New York’s $300 Direct Payments for Families: What You Need to Know

According to Newsweek, New York Governor Kathy Hochul has announced that families will receive $300 direct payments throughout August. This money is part of the Empire State Child Credit, which is giving out about $350 million to help low- and moderate-income families. More than a million families are expected to benefit, with payments of up to $330 per child. This effort is part of Hochul’s ongoing work to make living costs more manageable for New Yorkers.

Families don’t need to apply to get this payment. If you received at least $100 from the Empire State Child Credit on your 2023 state tax return, you’ll automatically get this extra payment. The checks started going out in early August and will be sent out over the next few weeks. The goal is to provide some financial relief as living costs rise.
