Governor Hochul Unveils $200 Million Food Aid Boost for New York Children
Summer EBT Program to Provide $120 Per Child to Support Nutritious Meals
According to ABC7 NEW YORK, on Thursday Governor Kathy Hochul announced a big boost in food aid for low-income children in New York. Nearly $200 million will be given out through the new Summer Electronic Benefits Transfer (Summer EBT) program. This program aims to help over 1.5 million children across the state get healthy food during the summer. “Healthy nutritious food is crucial for children’s health” Hochul said. She emphasized that the state is working to support more families and provide this help to those in need.
The Summer EBT program will give eligible families $120 per child to help with the cost of nutritious meals. This aid will be distributed through an EBT card which works like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. Some families have already started receiving these benefits and more will continue to receive them as summer goes on. The program aims to ensure children have enough to eat until school starts again.

Senator Schumer Highlights Importance of Summer EBT Program; Application Deadline Approaches
Senator Chuck Schumer also supported the program noting how crucial it is to address food needs during the summer when hunger often increases. “No child should ever go hungry” Schumer said emphasizing the federal funding that made the Summer EBT program possible.
